Hello Insiders,
Pretty interesting what continues to unfold
in the world of technology. The "I've
fallen and I can't get up" syndrome is
piling up internet businesses in
droves. Is it all doom and gloom? No,
but it's pretty scary out there folks. However,
there are still some exciting things happening in the e-world
and many of you are responsible (you know who you are)...
1. What's happening to the dot.commoners?
Despite signs of an
economic slowdown in the United States, most companies have no
intention of reducing their e-commerce spending in
2001. Need a little inspiration? Read

Second only to Christmas,
Valentine's Day continues to generate more online sales than
any other national holiday, proving that the Internet is one
of Cupid's most powerful tools for reaching
romantics. According to a survey by
BizRate.com, the leading comparison-shopping site on the Web,
over one-third of buyers intend to make a Valentine's Day
purchase online in 2001, and BizRate.com forecasts that sales
will increase to more than $2 billion in sales -- a
significant 31.7% increase from the same period last
year.
Exciting things are
happening in the Asia-Pacific region. Japan's wireless
boom may very well revolutionize internet access. And,
as their regional internet expansion continues,
highly-populated countries like China and India will slowly
gain a significant online presence. Numerous other
developments are expected to stimulate future internet and
e-business growth in the region.
Many catalog retailers have
succeeded on the web -- in some cases surpassing pure-plays
and brick-and-mortar retailers with a web presence. As much as
34% of retail e-commerce revenues are going to catalog-based,
online retailers, according to Boston Consulting Group. BCG
finds that of catalog companies that have moved online, 72%
are profitable. In contrast, the profitability of pure-plays
is much lower, at 24%.
